KOREA DAY IN SHEFFIELD Sunday 11th March 2018
I will be hosting a Kimbap making experience and giving a Kimchi demonstration.
The University of Sheffield Korea Society in collaboration with K-pop Dance Society are pleased to announce UoS’ first annual Korea Day! This event, which has been kindly sponsored by the Korean Cultural Centre UK, is a day-long celebration of Korean Culture which is focused on sharing both traditional and modern aspects of Korean culture with those living in Britain! Korea Day is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so please do feel free to join us, no matter where you’re from! Numerous cultural programmes will fill the Octagon Centre in Sheffield with a unique Korean vibe. Korean BBQ Evening Friday 26th January 2018
Wow! What a night. We ate sooooo much food. I started off with a Kimchi Pancake demonstration, then we made Dwaejigalbi, Spicy BBQ Dakgalbi and Boneless Beef Ribs, Spring Onion Salad, Ssamjang and Fried Rice. We finished off the evening with a glass of Sujeonggwa (Cinnamon and Ginger Tea) and a chat. Recipes are on my blog.
The Art of Kimchi Wednesday 17th January 2018
We had a great time making Kimchi this evening at Food Sorcery. I finished the class with a Kimchi Fried Rice demonstration. There was none left! Everyone took home their jars of fresh kimchi. Gaynor wrote a review of the class on my Gilded Gingerbread Facebook page. “Had an amazing night making Kimchi. Very interactive, informative, and fun….and super-tasty too…..definitely going to add this as part of my daily diet. Thank you. :0). X”
The Art of Kimchi Wednesday 1st November 2017
The Kimchi making class in Food Sorcery was a great success! 10 people came for the class even though it was on Wednesday evening.
I explained the benefits of eating kimchi and showed how to do it. Everyone made 1 litre of kimchi (2 jars).
I explained how Koreans eat kimchi in a meal and what kind of food they can cook with kimchi. I tried to make the class relaxed and fun.
Everyone didn’t want to leave the class after it finished. I had a great time teaching them. The cookery school is going to host more classes with me!
Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish of fermented vegetables that has been served since the 7th Century…Making cabbage fashionable!
Originally a method of minimising waste, preserving food ahead of harsh winters….now, it still accompanies nearly every meal in Korea and is the must-have side dish as the flavours are incredible and the health benefits (the fermentation process releases vitamins and minerals, and promotes gut health) are being talked about more frequently!
This masterclass is run by Hyeon Jeong of Gilded Gingerbread, she brings the Kimchi techniques to life with her authentic recipe and advice. The ticket price includes a drink on arrival, 2 jars to take home and all ingredients!
It’s a delicious skill to learn, and you won’t be purchasing manufactured kimchi again!
