ALMOST FAMOUS

Almost Famous in St Helens
Last Friday my story was published in a local newspaper where I live, the St Helens Star! I couldn’t believe it.
I have a 2 year old boy. His nursery was off last week because of the half term holidays. He had been asking to go to a play centre all week, so, on Thursday I took him and his sister. He played well with my 7 year old daughter and they both came home tired and hungry. We fed and showered them both and tucked them up in bed.
At about 11:30pm but son started crying, saying his knees hurt. If he has a very active day, he is often like that. It may be due to his growth. I’ve got an appointment with the pediatrician to discuss it. Needless to say I couldn’t sleep much all night because my son didn’t. On Friday, my mother-in-law kindly offered to babysit him for a couple of hours so that I could have a nap.
She left my house around 10am with my son. I was just falling asleep when my son’s friend’s mum from a playgroup texted me. She sent me a picture she took with her phone as well.
[Friend] Does this class as you being famous now!!
[Me] OMG. Which newspaper company?
[Friend] Well done. St Helens Star!
[Me] Thank you! ! Wow… Can’t believe it.
[Friend] You should be proud of yourself.
I was too excited to have a sleep. It is a local newspaper, so, we get a copy every week. I wasn’t sure if we had the latest edition. I found newspaper on my sofa. My mother-in-law must have left it on the couch. I was flipping each page to find my story. OMG, I found it!
I was thrilled! I called my husband who was at work.
[Me] Wow!!!!!!(I was screaming) I can’t believe it!
[Husband] What happened? Are you okay?
[Me] My story has been published in St Helens Star!!!!!
[Husband] Congratulations!
Can you please send me a picture? I really want to see it.
My story has been published in 2 Korean newspapers and the Korean Google (Naver), but, it was the first time my story has been in an English newspaper. I was super excited! https://www.gildedgingerbread.com/published-articles/
I texted all my friends and family in Korea and my mother-in-law and my family in the UK. ^^ Next day, my daughter’s teaching assistant was speaking to me.
[Teaching assistant] Good morning. You were in the St Helens Star yesterday!
[Me] Aww… Did you see the article??
[Teaching assistant] When I saw your picture in the newspaper, I told everyone, I know this person! Well done!
[Me] Thank you. ^^
Wow! Even though this newspaper is a local one, there must be some kind of influence. After I picked my daughter up from school, she was talking to me.
[Daughter] Mummy, 3 teachers said to me, “Was your mum in the newspaper?”
[Me] Wow! Did the teachers see the newspaper? So, what did you say to them?
[Daughter] I said to them, “Yes, she was. She was in the newspaper because that is what she dreamed of.
[Me] Wow! Did you tell them like that? Well done. ^^
The title of my story in the newspaper is Mum turned her love of cooking into her dream job. I am so proud of my daughter telling her teacher like the title. We all went out for a nice meal to celebrate. I want to share this story with you, too. Thank you for all your support.
